At Home Body Wraps Recipe

at home body wraps recipeAt home body wraps recipe has always been a very important part of my life.  I began using body wraps over 17 years ago which was, in a round about way, suggested by a doctor!

YES, this is the body wrap recipe as seen in the December 5, 2011 issue of Woman’s World Magazine.  And YES, it is the home body wraps recipe I used those many years ago.  They didn’t follow it exactly as I do, as I prefer to use Dead Sea Salts as opposed to Epsom salt, but they only suggested the Epsom salts because they are more easily available.  I’ve provided some links below to make it easier.

I have been performing body wraps on over 5000 clients over the past 12 years and enjoying the benefits myself for over 15 years!  I do know body wraps and finding many of my clients with limited budgets, I put together products that I know work to help detoxify and achieve inch loss that my clients could their own at home body wraps recipe in between coming to see me for a professional strength wrap.

This is the at home body wraps recipe I used many years ago when I needed to do a heavy detox when doctors couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t feeling very good.

I still recommend this to my clients for in between their compression wraps with me. (Although most find it is way too much time and trouble to do on their own!)

The professional body wraps such as LA SlimWrap, Inc. have a higher concentration of herbs and minerals and many more ingredients than is cost effective for someone to create their own professional at home body wraps recipe.  However, there are a few simple ingredients that can be used at home and in this at home body wraps recipe to help the body rid itself of excess waste and toxins at an affordable cost and get some great benefits to look and feel better.

At Home Body Wraps Recipe

Clay Cream Ingredients:

1 cup Bentonite (I use Indian Healing Clay, 1 lb. or Now Foods Bentonite Powder 1 lb.)

¼ cup Dead Sea Salt or ½ cup of Epsom Salt

2 Tbsp. Olive Oil

1 Green Tea Bag

3 cups distilled water, divided

Optional:  You may use Apple Cider Vinegar (I use Bragg – Organic Apple Cider Vinegar ) in place of the water.

Or use ½ Apple Cider Vinegar and ½ distilled water

Optional:  If you are using only the distilled water, then you may add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil if using only water.

Wrap Soak Ingredients

½ gallon distilled water

½ cup Epsom Salt or 1/4 Dead Sea Salt

2 Green Tea bags

Additional Supplies:

Long Underwear icon (1 top and 1bottom, preferably white as colored ones may bleed their color into the solution)

About 18 body wrap elastic bandages (Contact me …  Andrea@SpalonTechniques.com … for the high quality wraps I use at $4.00 each)

OR you can use white sheets or purchase about 3 yards of a stretchy rib knit material and cut into 6 inch wide X 54 inch strip as wrap bandages

Plastic wrap (such as Glad food wrap)

A Sauna Suit icon or plastic paint drop cloth(s) … You can either put on the sauna suit to keep warm and relax or you can cover your couch, chair or bed with a plastic drop cloth and wrap it around you then cover yourself with a blanket or two to keep warm.

Blanket(s)

Some people find it easy to put a blanket down in the bathtub (without water) , then the plastic and they get in, cover themselves with the blankets and relax in the bathtub.  Put on some of your favorite music, light a candle and enjoy!

DIRECTIONS for Mixing the at Home Body Wraps Recipe

In a medium size pot, bring 2 cups distilled water (or Apple Cider Vinegar or combination of the ACV and distilled water) with the green tea bag to a slow boil.  While 2 cups water is coming to a boil, in a separate small pot warm up remaining cup of water (to be used if clay mixture is too thick).  When 2 cups begins to boil, take out tea bag and add Dead Sea Salt (preferred) or Epsom Salt and stir until dissolved.  Add olive oil and continue stirring while you add Bentonite.  Lower heat to simmer and continue to stir.  If adding essential oil, now is the time.  Stir until a paste forms.  If mixture is too thick, use remaining cup of warm water to thin the clay mixture a bit.  If too thin, add a bit more clay.

Allow mixture to cool.

Wrap Soak Directions

In a large pot bring  ½ gallon distilled water along with tea bags to a slow boil, add ½ cup Dead Sea Salt or Epsom Salt, turn off heat  and stir until Salt dissolves.  Allow to cool off a bit until able to touch, then soak a pair of thermal long underwear (top and bottom) for about 15 minutes.  You can also use a white sheet cut into strips, or even a t-shirt type of material cut into strips that you cut about  2 yards long and roll up.

Apply the warm clay mixture from ankles up to waist and either put on the thermal bottoms or start wrapping.  Then continue applying clay mixture to the tummy, back and arms and put on the thermal top or continue to wrap.

*If using the long underwear, you will wring out excess liquid and slip on.  If using the body wrap  rolls (either the elastic or sheets or stretchy material), you will need to wrap yourself from feet on up and cover you whole body. Be sure to wring out the wraps before application so as not to drip all over.

If you use the plastic wrap:  Now you will take a roll of every day plastic food wrap and wrap yourself to keep the thermal underwear or the wraps up against your body to stay warm.  Make sure you cover everywhere you wrapped!

Now you can either put on cotton sweat pants and sweat shirt to stay warm or a long robe or lie down and cover yourself with blankets to stay warm.

If you use the sauna suit:  You will not need the plastic food wrap, but will just slip the sauna suit on and then find a comfortable place to relax and can cover yourself to keep warm.

If you use the plastic paint drop cloths:  You may either first cover yourself in the plastic food wrap and then lay down on the drop cloth and cover with blankets or just lay down on the plastic paint drop cloths and wrap it around you and then cover yourself with a blanket(s) to keep warm.

You are not suppose to sweat when wrapped while using this at home body wraps recipe…You need ONLY to keep yourself warm!

Relax for 45 – 60 minutes.  Unwrap and wipe off excess clay mixture with wet warm towel.  Do not bathe or shower for at least 8 hours.  You can apply your favorite lotion, if you so choose.

It is highly recommended that you wrap yourself 2 – 3 times a week for one month, then once a week for a month and then once a month to maintain the results.  Remember to drink plenty of water each day to help the body to rid itself of toxins and excess water.  A good gauge of the amount of water you should be drinking is 1/2 your weight in ounces. (For example, a 150 lb. person should drink 75 ounces of water each day.)

Although this at home body wraps recipe can provide a nice alternative to a professional body wrap, professional body wraps do provide greater inch loss, toning, detoxification and reduction in cellulite due to their higher concentration of minerals and or herbs.

Also, due to the time involved in preparing, wrapping, unwrapping and clean-up with using this or any other at home body wraps recipe, many people (actually most people) find performing and preparing at home body wraps recipes themselves quite time consuming and cumbersome and will most always seek out a salon or spa offering a professional body wrap to obtain the best possible results.

But if you are not near a spa or salon that offers professional body wraps such as as LA Slim Wrap body wrap (the ONLY professional body wrap I recommend!  LA Slim Wrap Locations), then try this at home body wraps recipe.

Go ahead and try my at home body wraps recipe or seek out an LA Slim Wrap location near you and be sure to let me know about your experience.  It is my hope that you will love LA Slim Wrap body wraps and their benefits as much as I do.

Happy Wrapping!

i was so excited when I found this wrap. I followed everything to a T. Didnt work. A huge waste of money, time, and made a huge mess.

    • Hi Carey,

Thank you for posting a comment. This may be a little lengthy, but I want to explain a few things to you about it.

I am really sorry it didn’t work for you, but I would like to help you if I can. I have been body wrapping for over 15 and at present I train on and only recommend the LA SlimWrap mineral body wrap, which can only be had at a spa or salon. However, when Woman’s World contacted LA SlimWrap and wanted to do an article about the LA SlimWrap mineral wrap, they also stated that they needed one that someone at home can do who is not near an LA SlimWrap provider or just didn’t want to spend the $100+ to get one. Woman’s World always like to give consumers an alternative to be done on their own at home.

The recipe I provided is the exact one I used when I first began wrapping myself because I was instructed by a doctor that I needed to begin a detox program, as I was having a few medical issues. They recommended Epsom Salt baths every other day and to drink lots of water. I then did my own research to help the detox process along and had found this recipe and used it…and I did have great results in the detox process, which helped rid me of the heavy bloating and some muscle and joint pain. My clothes did fit a bit looser, but I was only using flannel sheets to wrap instead of elastic bandages….so I did not get the compression required for immediate inch loss.

At any rate, I provided Woman’s World with the recipe that I had used many years ago and they had picked some people try it before they would even do the story…So when the women had great results, I felt confident about them publishing it. Woman’s World is very adamant about making sure whatever goes to print is valid.

With that being said, I am sorry you went through all of that trouble and was not happy. But I do want you to know that even after all of these years of wrapping people, there will be some that do not get any results after the first and sometimes even the second wrap, when it comes to the inch loss. Then on the third wrap have a big loss because now the body is detoxing a bit. Also if a person is a ‘hard’ body, whether the hard fat or muscular, the inch loss will not be as great as someone with a ‘mushier’ and softer body. Body wraps are meant as a detox and inch loss, not as weight loss. If someone loses any weight it is because they are very water retentive and the body is flushing. Which is why it is so important to drink lots of water after the wrap and for the next day. On a normal day, everyone should be drinking at least half their weight in ounces of water.

Oh my goodness, and I so totally agree with doing them on your own at home being such a mess. And then when you didn’t obtain the results, well I understand your unhappiness. Because of the mess and time consumption of doing body wraps at home, that is why people end up finding a spa that offers them instead. (If you do want to try a ‘professional’ one, please check out LA SlimWrap for someone who may be offering in your area.)

Now I know you have everything that you purchased and I don’t want to add fuel to the fire with your body wrapping experience, but if you would like to attempt it again, I would be happy to guide you or offer you some suggestions.

Also, I noticed a couple weeks ago that Woman’s World ran another article about home body wraps and it stated “Wrap off 30” in 60 minutes!”…. Here we go again, right? 🙂 Well here is the point, it is pretty much the same recipe except they added powdered Kelp (which they call the secret ingredient). Yes, it probably could do a bit something because Kelp is high in iodine which can help with weight loss.

If it was me and I had all of the other ingredients, but didn’t find the other recipe successful, I would definitely try this one. Now I am allergic to heavy doses of iodine, say if used medically intravenously, but I am not allergic to shellfish. So I would probably only do my lower half of body and not cover it over all.

If you would like me to email you the ‘new’ recipe from the current Woman’s World, please let me know and I will do so.

Again, I am sorry you were disappointed with the home body wrap recipe. My hope is that you do not turn your head on all body wraps (and give this one another try) just for the sake of the detoxifying qualities it can provide.

      Warm Regards,

      Andrea

    Hi Andrea ,
Is it possible to use this wrap with infrared sauna blanket ? If so how do you apply all this stuff . Can you wrap only into plastic then so all stuff doesn’t leak into blanket.

    • Hi Victoria,

Thank you for asking. Is this your first time trying a body wrap? I would love to hear how it goes for you.

Yes, you can use the infrared sauna blanket. You can do this a couple ways: 1. apply clay mixture all over and lightly cover with plastic wrap to keep against you. Then lay in blanket and YES with a plastic drop cloth so it doesn’t get your blanket all wet and “yucky.” 2. The way I like to do it. Apply Clay, soak a pair of long under wear in the liquid and then put on over clay and then lay in blanket with plastic drop cloth.

It is also really beneficial IF you could lay in the infrared blanket for at least 20-30 minutes prior to the wrap to get your body warmed up …then apply product, then lay in wrap again for 30-45 minutes.

Wipe off and it is always good to talk a little walk after being in the infrared blanket…Or march in place….Or put on some music and dance around the room a bit! 🙂 Why, you ask? It’s because you have been ‘relaxing’ in the wrap and the infrared is doing its best to help you to detox, but it takes your lymphatic system to really flush you out and that system only works when we are moving.

Do you know all about infrared or are you new to infrared?

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I am happy to help you in any way I can.

      Happy Wrapping!
      Andrea

  3. Suzanne H

I would also like the new recipe as well 🙂 I’ve tried the “It works!” wrap and I did lose inches, but they are pretty expensive, I bought the clay from the health food store and want to try making one at home. thanks!

    • Hi Suzanne. Thank you for asking! Yes, I know of the “It Works!” patch, which is herbal based. Ok…about the wrap that was in the December 31, 2012 of Woman’s World. It is pretty much the same except they added Kelp Powder. Here you go: 2 cups water, 1/4 sea salt, 1 cup French Green Clay, 2 TBS coconut oil or olive oil, 1/2 cup kelp powder, 1/2 cup chamomile powder or loose tea leaves. In medium pot, heat water and salt, stir to dissolve salt. Remove from heat and mix in remaining ingredients to form a wet paste. Put bandages or long underwear into clay mixture in pot and soak. Take a hot shower to open pores. Dry off lightly and apply excess clay to body then either wrap in soaked bandages or put on long underwear. Relax and keep warm for 45- 60 minutes.

You can cover yourself with a plastic drop cloth or put on a sauna suit. Keep your body heat in. Shower off when finished.

I haven’t tried this one, so I would love to know how it goes for you.

      Happy Wrapping!

      Andrea

  4. Hi-

I recently became very interested in body wraps to help with detoxing & weight loss. I will be using this receipe but wanted to know, how long does a mixture typically lasts? Basically, what’s the experation date?

    • Hi Whitley,

Thank you for asking! First, yeee haaa for you in wanting to detox.

You can refrigerate it for up to a week. Minerals may have a tendency to start to smell “earthy” and that may happen, but too strong is not good, as you don’t want bacteria to start growing. So if you can make enough for just one wrap at a time, that would be best. Or you can double it and just use the other half within a week. Three or four wraps every 3 days is a great start to detoxing. Did you read MY STORY and how I got started in all of this? 🙂

Losing weight is always easier if detoxing a bit first and then while on your weight loss journey. I learned many years ago how detoxing, can have the body running more optimally and with a few little changes in our everyday lives, how we can keep on feeling better and looking better. After all, when we feel better, we do look better!

May I ask about your weight loss? I have been body wrapping and helping people to detox, loss inches and weight for over 15 years now so I know all too well about the struggles. How is it going? Are you using anything other than eating healthy and exercise?

I never before, in all of this time, could actually recommend any type of weight loss pill to help people get a “quick result” so that they stay on their program…and more importantly there was never one that I could recommend that I would want anyone I knew to take…until now.

I always thought, “would I give it to my daughters, my mother or my grandmother”…and my answer was always no! If you are interested to learn more about this all natural weight loss supplement, that also will help you to detox, just shoot me an email Andrea@SpalonTechniques.com and put NATURAL WEIGHT LOSS in the subject line. I am hoping to have all info available here soon, but since you are on your weight loss journey…maybe this is just what you have been looking for to do it safely and quickly and keep it off for good!

      Be well.
      Andrea

  5. K. Cotton

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can re-use the un-used clay mixture a well as the wrap soak???

    • Hi,

Yes, you can keep any extra of the clay and the wrap solution in a tightly covered container and put it in the fridge for up to a week.

While the wrap solution is heating up, you can warm up the clay in the microwave. You may need to add a bit more distilled water, olive oil or apple cider vinegar to thin it down a bit.

I hope the wrap went well for you.

      Take care,

  6. finerface microcurrent,
Hi Andrea I did a search at the internet and i found a goog explanation about microcurrent treatment from Finerface LLC. They said a machine for face is not proper for body or vice versa. the face’s muscle is not equal the body’s muscle. So i would like to confirm with you this information once you have a machine to work with face and body. I am looking to buy a machine and i found a lot different information. I hope you can help me. You machine included curse certificate?
    Thank you

    • Thank you for contacting me. I am happy to help you in any way I can.

Yes, that is true…. face muscles are different than body. However, not all microcurrent machines are created equal…. the one from FinerFace and the information is true about that particular microcurrent because it is different than the one I use and recommend.

The Beautiful Image that I use does work on the face and the body because it comes with two different sets of wands…. smaller ones for the face and larger ones for the body. Also the machine has a face and a body setting to know when to use a bit stronger current for the larger body muscles. PLUS the wands with the Beautiful Images has the current running through the whole wand and the tip, unlike other machines that only uses the tip of the wand.

The machine comes with a training DVD, which is very easy to follow. It also comes with a VIP day, which is where Beautiful Image will send a certified trainer in your area out to you to help you perform treatments for two days in order to be confident in using the machine and also to help you get packages sold to pay for the machine quickly. And you will also receive a certificate.

If you would like me to send you a bit more information with a DVD in the mail, please email your address and I will be happy to do so. Also, please don’t hesitate should you have any more questions.

Where are you located? Maybe there is someone in your area I know that can provide you with a treatment. If you decide to move forward with purchasing Beautiful Image Microcurrent Facial and Body Sculpting, just let me know and I will be happy to help you.

In any case, I always recommend someone interested in purchasing any equipment that you seek out to receive a treatment and even have a friend, family member or one of your staff also receive a treatment from that particular piece of equipment to make the best possible decision. Because I did just that, I was able to decide on what I believe works best for me and my clients.

That was after I had purchased a $18,000 machine that did not work as described, nor came with complete training and any ongoing support as promised. So lesson learned. That machine now sits in a closet because no one wants it.

Over the years, I have met people that use FinerFace and are perfectly happy with it and others that use it, but also wanted to incorporate the body. Again, doing your research like this and asking questions is excellent and I encourage you to find someone in your area to receive the treatments, just to be sure before you spend the money. If that is not possible, then take the time to contact other owners and get their feedback.

      Be well,

  7. Hello Andrea,
I am glad I found this site. I just started doing the body wraps, and it was not messy for me and my daughter at all. Thank you for posting that the left over clay can be microwaved, that’s what I was wondering. Also I am glad I found you, because I did not know I needed to wipe off the clay and not shower for at least 8hrs. I did my first wrap and took a shower as soon as I took of the wraps. We both saw small results after the first wrap nothing major but I’m still satisfied. Now that I know to let it work for a few hours after unwrapping I’m sure I will see better results.

    Thank You
    Audrey

    • Hi Audrey,

I am so happy to hear from you and your experience with the clay body wrap. Some people just do not like to have that ‘chalk like look’ left on their skin after the wrap and there will be results even if all is washed away after the wrap, but just wiping the excess off and leaving on the rest….even applying a bit of cellulite reduction cream or body lotion on top of the ‘chalky’ film that is left behind and waiting for at least 8 hours to fully shower will yield greater results.

Here is another little tip you may consider next time you wrap: Be sure to use some type of compression garment after you unwrap and wipe excess clay off. I like to recommend my clients pick up a pair of the thicker type of leggings to put on and go about their day, maybe with a nice long tunic or cardigan. If going to sleep after wrap, just be sure nothing is too tight as to cut off circulation during the nite. This little bit of extra compression will help push the fat cells closer together, pushing away the waste and impurities sitting around them. Upon awakening, be sure to do a bit of ‘moving’ such as jumping jacks, jump rope, using a rebounder trampoline, or even marching in place while waiting for your morning coffee or tea to brew; as this will help to get the lymphatic system going after a long night’s rest. It is also very helpful to have a hot cup of water with a half fresh squeezed lemon in the morning before ingesting anything else (even your coffee) as this will help to detox the liver and help it to function properly through your day.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to share your experience with me. I wish you all the best and am here if you need me.

      Be well,

  8. vanessa ramirez

I tried this recipe but I use the sauna at my gym and it did really work with cellulite and losing inches I would highly recommend it.

    • Hi Vanessa,

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know your experience with my at home body wrap recipe featured in Woman’s World. Using the sauna was a great idea, as heat will help active ingredients in the product to penetrate, while also helping the body to rid itself of those wastes and impurities by sweating a bit. As a special “Thank You” gift for taking the time here to share your experience, if you are interested in trying and reviewing my new product, GO BARE Cellulite Reduction Cream…full of pure organic active ingredients to smooth, tighten and diminish cellulite…please email me at Andrea@SpalonTechniques.com.

      Happy wrapping!
