In life, as well in the spa and salon business, folding sheets is inevitable!  But what do the sheets in your spa and/or salon say about your business?

IN LIFE:  I don’t know about you, but…I grew up with a grandma who took laundry very seriously!  Which was passed on to my mom and, you guessed it, onto me!  I always marveled at their linen closets, as they always were (and STILL ARE!) impeccable.  As if I am gazing into a lovely boutique and the sheets were never used.  Although I rebelled a bit when younger, doing things the way they taught me has proven to be very beneficial and some quite brilliant!

Learning how to fold a fitted sheet in under a minute is just one of them.

Although I am a bit “picky” as to how laundry is done (just ask my husband!), folding sheets just seemed like such a waste of time and if I could avoid it, I would at all costs.   So I learned very quickly to just take them off, wash/dry them, and put them back on again.  Plus I love getting into fresh, clean sheets and probably raised the water bill every month since I changed them every three days.  So learning how to fold a fitted sheet, although I did know perfectly how to, was not something I wanted to do every three days or even week.how to fold a fitted sheet and have a beautiful linen closet

Once I had my four kids you can bet I kept on with my ‘never have to fold sheets again’ tactic of doing them all and putting them back on all of the beds.  Yes, I did have many extra sets; because you just never know when you may need them.  I mean even though I learned how to fold fitted sheets years ago and this quick, I just preferred to do it “my way.”

IN BUSINESS:  If there was one thing, and you know there are many things, to pay attention to when owning a Spa and/or Salon, sheets (and towels and robes) were very important to the my business.

Have you ever gone for a massage or facial and you see a bin under the massage table or esthetics chair full of wadded up sheets?  Not knowing IF they were dirty or clean!  Or even in a beautiful armoire in the treatment room where the sheets are just wildly stuffed in there?

It really takGrandma Mary es away from the overall experience for the client as to their comfort level, even subconsciously, that everything is clean…well, I am hoping you think so too.  So teaching my staff how to fold a fitted sheet was and still is one of those “little things” that really make a difference.

So this is dedicated to my Grandma Mary (who is 2 months shy of 94 on March 6, 2013), who taught mAndrea Pekarik Welch with Mom, Barbara Gwodze to do laundry and iron when I was 5 years old! And to my Mom who carried on that, what some may call, ‘anal tradition’ of a perfectly displayed linen closet.  The first items I learned to iron:  pillow cases, my Grandpa Joe’s handkerchiefs, and his boxer underwear….ahhhh the good old days!

I know there are other ways and that is cool if you find one that you like better.  But this video will show the way that I was taught how to fold a fitted sheet.  Oh, and I always would put a clean large bath towel or beach towel on the floor so that the clean sheet being folded did not touch the ground!

How to fold a sheet like Martha StewartHere is a picture of putting your beautifully fitted sheets into the matching pillow case, which makes for a very organized linen closet.  Great idea Martha Stewart, but I like to put the clean, folded sheet sets into a zipper bags with a dryer sheet to keep them dust free and fresh!
P.S. Although I don’t do it much anymore, I still find ironing very relaxing and it always brings back some really great memories.  Hmmmm, I think I will drag out the ironing board and iron and a few pillow cases! 🙂
